About
Welcome To Range The Drive?
How Did We Start?
Range the drive started with a simple idea by two golfing friends and technology geeks. After speaking on the course one day we decided we wanted to make the world of electronic range finding tech easier to understand and work out what was needed and what was not.
Electronic golfing aids are a minefield of techno-jargon and in-house terminology. It can be difficult to understand what certain capabilities are and whether you need them or not. Are they worth the cost? We wanted to simplify that and test the best to find out which tech is best for the on-course range finding job for all levels and budgets.
The Beginning For Us
Looking back, I guess it began in 2005……
Back then sport and golf, in particular, seemed in many ways a lot more straightforward than it is today. Even then so, technology had found its way onto the course and programs are available for desktops and laptops to help with course round planning, score management and so on.
Neither myself nor Simon had any idea just how explosive the surge of technology into our favourite sport would be. Even then as younger golfers, we were left wondering how things worked and where the techno route might actually lead the golf.
The seed that was sown then have grown over the years and our interest in both golf and the increasingly sophisticated technological aids that support it. Finally, we both decided to start this blog as a way to carve through the technobabble out there and is still technical aids (especially rangefinders) into the core components that matter to the golfer. Technology in golf is big business today and we are keen to help our fellow players get to grips with it.

Our goal with this site is to help you become a better Long Hole Golfer Using Smart Distance Calculation Tools And Software
Our Goals
With all the technology out there is probably more important than ever that the right advice and insight is available without all the smoke and mirrors that often surround technology. It’s very easy to pretend in today’s world that you’re a techno guru or a sporting master.
Right from the start, this site is going to be all about getting the right information into the hands of golfers interested in what technology can do for them. Our overarching aim is to make sure that players have the right information they need to make an informed decision about technology based on fact and actual testing.
Going forward we hope to support our readers and would be delighted if our readers support us. We aim to provide the highest quality and tested advice for golfers interested in and what technology can offer. We like to invite you to look around the site and get to know it – we hope you’ll enjoy what you find.
Our Team

Mark, Technology and Testing
Mark brings an in-depth technical knowledge supported by 10-handicap golf skills. Marrying the two has been an interest of his for many years. Recognising the bewildering array of rangefinder and other technology options out there, he realised that with his combination of skills and background, he could make a difference.

Simon, Golf instructor and Technology Tester
As a 4-handicap golfer for many years, Simon brings a wealth of practical playing expertise to the site. A golfing professional, he’s able to overlay the practical realities and temper marks enthusiasm with the technology side of the site.
Why Read Range The Drive?
Over time we aim to bring you the latest and best insights into golfing technology and what it can bring to one of the world’s great games. We are both players and both testers of what we cover here on the site. We hope to enable you, the modern golfer, to benefit from the available tech, both on and off-course. Golf is a wonderful, liberating game and we hope our small contribution will help our fellow players.
We’d love to hear from you and please get in touch with suggestions if there is a particular piece of tech you’d like us to put under the microscope!
